Due to a lack of teachers at different educational levels in shortage areas, some schools in the US are interested in recruiting teachers from other countries. The candidates must meet the qualifications imposed by the specific school, and must also meet the criteria set by the State Department of Education where the candidate will be placed.

Requirements the candidates should meet are, but not limited to:

- Must have high qualification in subject areas that are considered to be shortage areas.

- Must possess teacher certification in the country of origin.

- Must have completed a formal teaching training program.

- Must have completed a degree equivalent with at least a Bachelor's Degree which would be obtained in the United States.

- Must be fluent in the English Language as determined by the local authority.

- Must pass an interview with the local Office of Recruitment that governs the school the applicant will be directed to.
